Standards for Ferrets

I am not an expert on baby ferrets, but I have seen these babies in pet stores that are far too young to be taken from their mothers. I brought home a baby ferret, who was no more than 5 or six weeks old, because he was starving in his cage. He was too little to eat the kibble that he was offered. He only had little milk teeth.

Right now, we have the opportunity to do something about it because the USDA is seeking public input. They are asking about minimum standards for the care, treatment, and transport of ferrets. The details are available at the Ferret Congress site, including sample letters and the original petition that was filed.

If you have encountered baby ferrets that have been taken from their
mothers too young, or have comments about the standard of care needed
for ferrets, this is your time to share them.

It would be particularly good if those of you that breed or rescue
ferrets could comment, since you are experts.

I'm writing my letter today, please consider writing yours.

The Ferret Olympics Agility Trials

The 2005 Ferret Agility Trials (formerly The Ferret Olympics) is underway today. They were forced to change their name by the U.S. Olympic Committee. Although this happened last year, the story has just been picked up by news agencies all over the country.

As ferret people, it is always exciting to see ferrets in the media, but it seems that this media attention is what caused the problem in the first place. Although this event has been going on for several years, the story would up in the press last year, and caused the Olympic Committee to take notice.

Visit The Lane Area Ferret Lovers Club and Shelter for more information about the Ferret Agility Trials.

Ferret Link Directory

We are working on building a comprehensive directory of ferret links. So many of the links in the popular directories are broken, or out of date. Our goal is to provide a frequently updated directory of site that provide useful ferret information.

Please visit our Ferret Links page and please send us your suggestions.

Ferret Shopping

These are some of our favorite places to shop online for ferret supplies and gifts. Most of them are affiliate links and we donate our commission to ferret shelters and related charities.

So, if you are shopping online anyway, why not shop through our links, or better yet, check with your local ferret shelter, to see if they have a similar arrangement on their Website? Ferret Shopping

Ferrets Unlimited

Northeastern Ohio only has one ferret shelter and they are completely full at the moment! Please help spread the word to other animal lovers. If you live in the Greater Cleveland area and are considering adding a ferret to your family, please check there first.
